GYMEA GAZETTE ARTICLE
DECEMBER / JANUARY
Illawarra was the venue for our September game and after a BBQ and a few refreshments 18 members teed off in the second round of the President’s Shield and a 6x6x6 event.
Results for the day were:
Winners- Aaron Maclean, Roo Gibson and Gerald O’Sullivan (65 points on a count back),
Second- Howie Russell, Greg Burg and Ray De Witt. The Guzzlers went to Howie, a very popular win.
The October game at Kareela was the Match Play Final, with our Club Capitan, Kenny Wood, the victor over Ryan De Witt. Congratulations Ken.
Again 18 members hit off in the day’s Individual Par event with success to Mark Smith over Ray De Witt with the Guzzlers going to Mark Humphreys.
A disappointing turnout of only 12 players for November at Illawarra in very ordinary playing conditions. Darren Bassett (37 points) won the days Individual Stableford competition with second to Ray De Witt (36points) and the Guzzlers to Aaron Maclean(32 points).
The Club’s annual trip to Sussex Inlet was, as usual, a very noisy, enjoyable, full-of-fun weekend. 17 members ventured south and as you can imagine there are lots of stories, which must stay on tour.
One has to be told though. Howie Russell did sink a 90 foot putt, there were witnesses, but by days end, very late, the distance from ball to hole was “actually” 165 feet.
The Friday game at Worrigee was won by Drover on 41 points, (the applause was deafening) with Kevin Gough second.
St. Georges Basin on Saturday was another Stableford event with Bob Gallagher having the most points on 39 and Chris Donohue(38) the runner up.
Unfortunately, heavy rain cut short our game on Sunday at Jambaroo, with the 4 ball Ambrose completion reduced to 9 holes. Les Woodley, Drover, Chris Donohue and Ken Wood, won the day.
The revised handicaps worked well, especially for Bob, Chris and Drover. Thanks handicapper.
And SPECIAL THANKS to Chris Donohue, bus driver extraordinaire. The boys really appreciated your navigating skill and the smooth gear changes.
The 2011 trip will be from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 November. Sign up early, bookings already going fast (Budget say $300 – Bed/Breakfast 2 nights, 1 Dinner, 3 games of golf and Bus) Everyone’s welcome.
If you’re interested talk to Peter Donohue – 0439608236, Ray Dunston 0410106137 or Bob Gallagher 0412864410.
Our Christmas Game this year is on 12 December at Boomerang – BBQ 8.00 am, tee off 9.00 am, followed by the AGM and 2010 Trophies presentations at GymeaBowls (Greens Room) starting around 2.30 – 3.00 pm. 2011 Games are on the Golf Club Notice Board, past the TAB.
